The center supports basic research on the G. H. Cook Campus by sharing its core facilities including the DNA Sequencing Facility, the Computer Teaching Laboratory, and the Biorobotics Laboratory. These facilities are outstanding examples of productive university-industry-state partnerships. Instrumental in building the core facilities were Rutgers University, the School for Environmental and Biological Sciences, the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, and several New Jersey corporations.

Core Research Facilities

  • Biorobotics Facility: supports biodiscovery research and trains students in modern high-tech methods including state-of-the-art robotic equipment that rapidly and accurately screens thousands of samples
  • DNA Sequencing Facility: supports biotechnology research, including cutting-edge genomic analyses and genetic tracking of plant breeding programs
  • Computer Teaching Laboratory: provides equipment and training with the latest software and internet tools
  • Chang Science Library: located on the first floor of Foran Hall and contains the university's collection of agriculture and environmental journals. The library is equipped with 44 internet-connected PC computers for access to electronic resources
  • Vegetable Research and Development Center in Bridgeton: provides facilities for testing genetically modified crops in the field

Shared Equipment

In the interest of stimulating collaborative research, faculty at the Biotech Center are pleased to share their state-of-the-art equipment with the Rutgers research community.
