Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences [Biotechnology Center for Agriculture & the Environment]

Outreach

Serving Society

The Center has developed a network of state, federal, and international scientists, collaborating with research groups around the world. Our faculty serve on national research advisory panels, editorial boards of prestigious professional journals, and planning committees for national and international conferences. We are concerned about the impact of our research, and offer our expertise in debates about ethical issues and policy formulation. Our knowledge and research efforts are valued by colleagues around the world and shared with New Jersey corporations, New Jersey state agencies, and the general public. To involve students in these debates, we offer a course on ethics and issues in biotechnology that is open to all undergraduates.

Sharing Technology

Sharing knowledge with corporate collaborators leads to new products and solutions to problems in the agricultural, environmental, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Biotech Center scientists have developed an intellectual property portfolio of patents that are available for commercial licensing. Two start-up companies have been spun off and our scientists provide advisory, analytical, and other services to many more.
